Very sad passing of a truly legendary sportsman. I have many great childhood memories of watching his amazing masterful smooth skilful performances and hearing his modest Kiwi style reports.

When I grew up with speedway in the 80's Ivan Mauger was the greatest speedway rider the world had seen. I never had the privilege of seeing him ride. In 2018 he is still the greatest speedway rider. A testament to his talents. I don't follow the sport much these days but was very sad to hear the news. My condolences to his family.

First saw Ivan at Brough Park in 1975 me as a 9 year old Newcastle Diamonds fan with my sister, one of my very first meetings. The thing I remember most was Ivan went round Brough in about 65 seconds. Wow instantly became my hero...after the Owen bros of course!!! seen him the odd time he came back to Brough with Hull Exeter. Loved his white leathers just in my opinion THE GREATEST SPEEDWAY RIDER. Do you know I think that track record at Brough stood for about 16 years!!! amazing. Thanks for the memories Ivan from a starry eyed little kid who loves speedway and you the speedway legend. Your spirit will be at every speedway meeting. R.I.P IVAN DAVID RIDLEY

So sorry to hear of the passing of Ivan, still have very fond memories when he graced the shale at the County Ground Exeter, wonderful times and a true craftsman, it being no wonder that he will ever remain the number one with the total of World Speedway titles he won over his career.

Ivan was the star of Belle Vue when I went with my family as a teenager. He was fantastic to watch and could often be relied upon for a maximum. I saw him become world champion at Wembley. He was in my view the best rider ever.

First saw you in at the world final Wembley '72 when you beat my personal hero Bernt Persson into second place. I was gutted at the time but even though I was young I recognised Bernie was beaten by a true champion, one that would never be matched. Great man, great loss.

The greatest speedway rider I ever saw, my absolute hero when I was a young boy watching him ride for Belle Vue Aces. Even when he moved on to grace other tracks he was always my favourite rider. God Bless you Ivan, and thanks for all you gave to the sport. RIP Ivan Mauger - a true legend
