Ivan was the best gater we ever saw. He was one of the greatest speedway rider ever. Our condolences to Ivan’s family. RIP Ivan
RIP Ivan, Many Thanks for the speedway memory's, Great Man and Great Rider!!
Cheers from Cromwell NZ.
Ivan was the sport's trail blazer and brought professionalism to the sport because that was the way you did it as a male on the shale. He was grounded, had a great sense of humour and was a wonderful promoter too. As a rider there were none better. He did not deserve to leave us in a care facility and without a memory of his career, friends and family. Goodbye my friend with kind thoughts to Raye and the family as we all share your loss.
Ivan was truley the greatest ,he inspiered me in my life and im sure many other people and riders r.i.p. Ivan ,the speedway world will miss you .
So sad. Had the pleasure to ride with him in 1961 great loss
In an age of Barry Briggs, Ove Fundin, Peter Collins, and Ole Olsen, Ivan Mauger was simply the best.
Remember watching Ivan racing at Aranui Speedway especially and I was there regularly on a Saturday night as a youngster with Dad in the pits assisting others and remember the races vividly and met him many times over the years in Christchurch at the venue. My thoughts are very much with the speedway fraternity, Christchurch itself, and now Ivan's dedicated family on the Gold Coast - hold on tight and treasure your memories.
My love & best wishes to Ivan's family & may Ivan rest in peace.
Without a doubt the best speedway solo rider I saw in the 60's, 70's & 80's.
To see Ivan in full flight was awe inspiring to say the least & I'm sure many riders who took up the sport took it up because they wanted to be as good as Ivan.
To see Ivan, Barry Briggs & Ole Olsen together was amazing.
RIP Ivan Mauger & thanks for the many great memories.
Memories of Ivan will always remain with us. We shared lots of laughter and good times over many years. Sandra & Murray Perry, NZ
I met Ivan Mauger at the Speedway Riders Reunion Dinner when Ivan was president of the WSRA. I got to chat to him while he signed my programme. I have never seen him ride but heard lots of stories from my husband Tony about him.
What I remember from that one occasion is that he had a beautiful smile; that he was apparently an amazing rider (which is borne out with all his trophies of victory) and that he was unaffected with perfect manners. So in a word ..... a LEGEND, not just in speedway but in Life. RIP Ivan.
Saw you at your best and although you never rode for my team we always made sure we went to the races when Belle Vue and later Exeter came to town. You challenged and pushed speedway forward at its best supported time thoughts and prayers with your family. Rip a real legend Ivan Mauger
It is with a deeply saddened heart that I’m sending my families' condolences over the loss of an iconic sportsman, great individual, beautiful person, Ivan Mauger! My family, The Bokelman’s who all reside in California, USA, have had the great privilege of knowing Ivan Mauger & his lovely family for the past 50 years and actually consider the Maugers “our other family.”
My dad, Ray Bokelman & Ivan became fast friends back in 1968 and had formed quite the brotherly love for one another. We all loved Ivan so much & have such treasured family memories, including the gold plating of Ivan’s Triple Crown Championship Speedway Motorcycle by my dad, Ray Bokelman! We will miss Ivan terribly, but are so happy for the mountain of beautiful memories of him.
All our love to Raye, Julie, Kym, Debbie and their families!
Sincerely,
Diane Bokelman - Remlinger
Condolences to all the family. It was amazing to watch you race. You inspired my husband to take up speedway and the love of the sport was passed on to our son who also rode. Such style, skill and such a people person. A sporting legend. Thank you for the entertainment you provided us all.
Even today if you ask somebody who knows nothing about speedway to name one rider the chances are they would say Ivan Mauger. That's his mark on this sport without question the best rider to ever chuck his leg over a bike. Thanks for the memories Ivan
So sad to hear the news, I was privileged to have seen Ivan ride many times, He was a real speedway legend.
My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Saw you ride many times, so smooth. RIP
Sad to hear the passing of such a legend in the speedway world. An honour to have seen him ride in the 70s against other legends Briggo, Ole Olson and Ronnie Moore. He set the bar high for all to challenge and try and surpass. My condolences to the family of Ivan. The name is synonymous in the speedway world and will live on forever. RIP IVAN.
Gone but never to be forgotten.
Never saw you ride live, but you are a legend at my team Newcastle Diamonds.
RIP Ivan.
Fond memories of a great Ambassador to the sport of Speedway . Mr Unforgettable xxx
My uncle got me into speedway from the age of 10 at the County Ground Exeter. I remember the team we had, MAUGER, STEVE KOPPE, SCOTT AUTRY, VACLAV VERNER, PETER PRINSLOO, JAN VERNER, STEVE REGELING, 1970s, you were always great to watch, and also led led us to to the Gulf Oil British League title. You will be sadly missed by all speedway fans alike, a true icon and ambasader to the sport. May you rest in speedway heaven
