Belated condolences to Raye and the family on the passing of Ivan. As a long time Belle Vue fan I had the great privilege of seeing ivan at his peak, the greatest rider of all time who brought a level of professionalism into the sport never seen before. He was a complete master in everything he did and also got the very best out of his team mates. Talking to some members of the early 70's Aces team his attention to detail was amazing. If Ivan had raced in a GP series as we have now it's scary to think how many titles he would have won, his consistency was unbelievable. Thanks for the great memories that you left us. Rip Ivan.

Got to be the greatest rider of all time when you look at his individual honours, team honours, complete focus/dedication and the length of time he rode for! I only saw him ride in the early 80's when he was far past his best although he could still maintain a 8pt average in the British League for Exeter in 1984 when only riding part time and over 44 years old!

I crossed the A34 (Kingsway) to catch the 96 bus to Belle Vue ... a white Mercedes car pulling a trailer... on board were 2 gleaming Jawa Speedway bikes. Their chauffeur was my idol... the thrill of seeing Ivan on his way to Hyde Road was immense. Sitting on the third bend I'd watch in awe as Ivan rode towards me at speed ... the back wheel came out, the left foot went down ... that was a moment of speedway beauty for me ... that sight is still burnt in my mind. The style... his designed leathers ... and the chequered helmet of course. Later I would go in the pits and get the latest poto I had purchased signed by him. So so many great memories... saying thank you feels so inadequate.... So to Ivan and Raye ... Thank you for making the trip half way around the world. Not only me but Speedway fans every where are so so grateful. RIP IVAN

IVAN; MY CHILDHOOD HERO, IVAN: a good friend in my later life. I was privileged as a supporter on the terraces at the County Ground to witness the skill of IVAN as a rider and later as the British under 21 team manager to have the support of IVAN in getting my team to Australia with all our bikes and equipment and for the team members to enjoy the benefit of his vast experience on technical and riding matters. From my humble beginnings as a fan it was awesome when I was specfating at a round of the Aussie championships some years later in Kurri Kurri for IVAN to seek me out and to spend precious time talking with me. A real Man of the people and a true champion Thank you IVAN forever in my thoughts RIP

In 1963 I first saw Ivan Mauger riding for Newcastle Diamonds. He was the greatest Newcastle rider ever, I have many happy memories, meeting him on several occasions. In 1966 when he became European Champion at Wembley Stadium in front of a packed crowd I was there and will never forget that meeting. Ivan was a true sportsman you will be sadly missed. My sincere condolences to all his family, RIP.

Always looked forward to Ivan's visits to Glasgow starting back in 1964. An absolute great and my favourite non-Tiger. Was pretty pleased with the connection via Kym riding for Glasgow in the 1980s. Ivan Mauger = speedway's greatest. R.I.P. Ivan

They broke the mould when they made Ivan Mauger. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him. My thoughts go to family friends and speedway riders and fans.

The right words cannot be found except to say the world has lost one of its best. An author once wrote "a man is not dead as long as his name is spoken". We shall speak Ivan's name loud and long for many a year. R.I.P. Ivan.

I would like to add mine and my wife's tribute to such a great man. We were lucky enough to be Belle Vue fans when Ivan came in 69. We met him several times during his Belle Vue days. A nice,friendly and polite man, as well as a brilliant rider and team man. I consider him to be the one person who brought the word professionalism into speedway. There will never, in my opinion be another rider like him. Our thoughts and sympathies at this time to all his family and friends. Thanks for all the memories I have of him over the years. The King is dead, long live the King.

Ever since I was fortunate enough to meet Ivan through his good friend in Adelaide Kym Bonython, he has been my hero and a mentor to me. I have learned much from his courage, his dedication, his professionalism, and his determination, but moreover the humility he maintained despite his hard earned success. Ivan has left a lasting impression on me, as he has on the many thousands who have also been privileged to have met or known our sport's greatest exponent. My deepest and most sincere condolences go to his beloved Raye, their children and family, and to his friends. Rest In Peace Ivan Mauger, my hero.

My school summer holidays in 70`s we would stay in Devon, and the highlight would be a Monday night trip to The County Ground. That`s where where the Exeter Falcons flew and I saw my first ever Speedway meeting with Ivan the star attraction. Revisited so many times after that and had the pleasure to see Ivan ride many more times also and ride the last ever lap. Lifelong Speedway fan and lifelong admirer of Ivan`s achievements. Thank you so much Mr Mauger and Rest In Peace.

What a speedway rider, one of first I ever saw. The greatest always. Remember him riding for Hull against Coventry at Brandon in 1979 title decider against great dane protégé Ole Olsen, 42-36 to Coventry 12 point maximum Olsen. Thanks Ivan for the memories. Mark Savage

Sad to hear of the passing of so great an entertainer. He made riding a speedway bike look so very easy. That was part of the magic he wove.
