I still remember watching Ivan race for the Diamonds at Poole in the Provincial League days, and thinking this guy is pretty good. Little did I know then that that Dorset lad would end up living most of his life in Ivan's home country. Thank you, sir, for years of thrills and wonder.

Speedway has just lost its greatest rider, took professional to a new level, on and off the track he was a credit to the sport, and great with words of advice for his team mates, but more importantly his family have lost someone that they loved and treasured. I met and spoke to him once with my daughters, he happily posed for a picture, and we chatted for a while.
Ivan will always be a legend in New Zealand. I had the pleasure of knowing him since a teenager and then working with him closely when he hosted events in NZ. It’s a sad day for the speedway world. Condolences to Raye, Kym, Julie and Debbie. Sandra and Murray Perry, Whangamata, New Zealand ??
Speedway lost a giant last night.
I lost a friend.
Deepest sympathy to the family of Ivan Mauger, he was the greatest speedway rider there has ever been, some people may not have liked his forthright demeanour, but everyone respected him.
A brilliant rider and a real gentleman. Deepest sympathy to his family.
Such sad news but such wonderful memories of the greatest ever rider.
A truly great rider. His presence always added to the crowd numbers at Cradley and probably everywhere else as well. My sympathy to Raye and his family.
The best there ever was. So many memories of Ivan as a speedway fan growing up. Will never ever be forgotten worldwide.
LEGEND.
Sincere condolences to the family of the greatest speedway rider and ambassador of all time. Rest in peace Ivan
I was there when you brought world-class Speedway to Southern California and it was magical. Thank you for being kind to a young girl and her family. You were always so generous to the Cali fans and we are grateful. You left a legacy future racers aspire to.
Very sad day, having seen Ivan all through his career, I think he transformed with his sheer professionalism, the greatest rider the sport has ever seen IMO. Condolences to his family and thanks for the great memories. R.I.P. Ivan.
Ivan was my Idol, he was the best in the world, was a pleasure having him ride for Belle Vue, and had the greatest pleasure being at Wembley to watch him yet again win a world championship, What a night!! He will be missed but never forgotten. I feel so sad. xxx RIP Ivan you bloody legend.
Sad to hear of Ivan's passing. My condolences to Raye and the family. Without doubt the greatest rider of his and many generations. A pioneer is so many ways. I am fortunate to have seen him ride at the peak of his form. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
Just returned from Belle Vue and the tribute to Ivan tonight. From watching him lead the great Aces team of 69-71 to seeing him at Gorton Monastry a few years ago when he gave his support to the plans for the National Speedway Stadium it always felt an honour to be in his company. A fantastic rider who changed the standards of the sport and a wonderful ambassador for speedway, the like of which we haven't seen since. He was truly unique. RIP maestro.
Ivan was the greatest rider ever to wear the diamond race Jacket. True professional on and off the track. Condolence to Raye and family and Gordon and Margaret Stobbs.
My sincerest condolences to the Mauger family at the passing of the finest speedway rider in the world. He was the greatest ambassador for the sport and I was privileged to meet and talk with him at the Blackbird Road track in Leicester. God bless you all xxx
Such wonderful memories, I feel honoured to have seen him in the 60s and have been on the planet the same time. We will miss you, rest in peace Ivan (champ)
Not often news of somebody's passing hits me hard but this has, a hero of mine when I first became a young speedway fan in the early 70s. Now Ivan has left us it genuinely marks the end of an era, we'll never see his like again. The greatest rider ever, RIP Ivan.
Simply the greatest of all time
