Ivan you were the greatest of all time. So good that it seemed so unfair that others had to ride against you. You captained my team, Belle Vue, to triumph after triumph and we marvelled at your skill season after season. You will never be forgotten by the many thousands who witnessed you.
RIP Ivan.
Quite simply the greatest rider in the history of the sport. Speedway will never be the same again. Thank you for being my hero Ivan.
Rest in Peace.

A sad loss for our great family sport.
PROBABLY THE GREATEST RIDER OF ALL TIME
As a boyhood fan of Newport Wasps, it was always an extra special evening when Ivan was in town with the Exeter Falcons. I remember the excitement of the Golden Helmet match races followed by 13 match heats when Ivan would just seem unbeatable most of the time! A true sporting genius who was and is truly famous outside of speedway; thanks for the memories Ivan, RIP.
Not one of, but THE very best!
Simply the best there has ever been R.I.P Ivan
I had the honour to meet the great man when he visited the island and he was the perfect gentleman. And as a rider there was no one better the perfect professional. We'll never see his type again.
To wide eyed kids that first saw a speedway race in the US in the seventies, one man stood as a God that all others were measured against. I saw Ivan ride twice, and he took my breath away. You just knew you were witnessing epic talent, tempered in the cauldron of hard fought battles. Like so many young teens, I slept under a proudly displayed Ivan Mauger poster above the headboard. God bless the Mauger family during this time of profound loss, and know that Ivan lives in the hearts and memories of millions. Peace be with you.
I was very saddened to hear the news of Ivan's death. My sincere condolences to his Family and friends.
Farewell to arguably the greatest Speedway Rider ever.

R.I.P. Ivan. You rode before I was born but my dad use to tell me story about you and how good a rider you were. He used to go on about the golden speedway bike. My thoughts and prayers are with Ivan's family and friends
I was deeply saddened by the news of Ivan's passing, I knew him and lived and worked very near to him and his family when they lived in Woodford. He was a true genius in his sport the proof being in the enormous amount of titles and world championships he won in his long racing career he was meticulous in every thing he did and I doubt there will ever be another like him. My thoughts are with his family at this very sad time. Regards, Barry Townsend.
I never saw Ivan ride for Newcastle Diamonds but was lucky enough to meet him after he retired when he visited the city. What a lovely gentle man he was, always had time for people, a true champion who will be greatly missed by his family, friends and fans around the world RIP Ivan.
