I had the great privilege of meeting Ivan during my time working at Coventry speedway in the 70s. His passion and absolute determination to win was always clear to see. I remember him coming to Brandon with Belle view, Exeter and Hull and he would go around to his team mates offering advice and you would see him helping with a wheel change or repair to a young rider's bike. It was always the highlight of the season to see Ivan race against either Nigel Boocock in the late 60s or Ole Olsen in the 70s, the races were terrific and if Ivan was in town the stands would be full not just with Coventry and fans of whichever team he was racing for, but with speedway fans from Leicester, Cradley and Wolverhampton who just had to see Ivan vs Ole because you just knew it would be incredible racing by two of the absolute legends of Speedway. Ivan you were the greatest of all time, thank you for all you gave to speedway, a legend and a genius. RIP xx

I was privileged to have known Ivan as a child as my mum and dad were friends of the family, and we would often visit their house and they came to ours. Special memories include the world final at Wembley in 1978, when my Dad and myself each carried one of Ivan’s spare wheels in order to gain access to the pits, and the time Ivan raced Peter Collins at Ellesmere Port in the 1970’s over three races and my Dad had arranged for me to go on a few laps on the back of Peter’s bike during the interval while my sister was with Ivan, and I’ve been trawling the internet in the hope of finding any photos or video of that, but no luck as of yet. I also remember a new year’s eve party when my mum turned up in a green dress and Ivan went mad as he hated the colour and I have a photograph of that somewhere!, and I was also lucky enough to sit on the gold bike during one visit to their house. My Dad was a Belle Vue fan for 50 years and Ivan wrote a special tribute for him which appeared in the programme and the Speedway Star. My Dad also managed to convince everyone he was the New Zealand manager after having a picture taken with the team during one of the England vs New Zealand series matches at Belle Vue in 1970!. http://www.geocities.ws/robnade2001/NZtests.html Ivan rang me personally in 2006 after we lost my mum and sent flowers from Australia. That says it all, he was a fantastic man. Dear Raye, Julie, Kym, Debbie and all the Mauger family, please accept my, Paula’s and our families' most sincere condolences regarding the passing of Ivan, we are all so very sorry to hear the news and you are all in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad time x

Thanks for the memories Ivan. The sport's first true professional. You set the benchmark for those that followed. I recall seeing you many times over the years starting with seeing you when you rode for Newcastle in the Provincial League and later with Belle Vue. You were always the one to beat. I last saw you at Peterborough when you signed a copy of your book for me. My condolences to your all family. Thanks again.

I was so sorry to hear about Ivan, Simon, Dad and I have very fond memories of you all at Woodford and shall never forget the time we saw him receive one of his many prizes at Belle Vue. It was a wonderful occasion but we know that our experience was limited compared to the amazing international acclaim he won. Simon and I also loved those wonderful days in the back field on the motorbikes. Please accept our deepest condolences and we send our love x

Had the pleasure of watching him ride many times. He was in a class of his own with a fantastic riding style. Very sorry that he is no longer with us and my condolences to his family and friends. R.I.P. Ivan Mauger.

I remember watching Ivan in his years riding for the Diamonds in the sixties. Immense talent, dedication and professionalism coupled with his quiet but courteous demeanour left a lasting impression. His impact on speedway should never be forgotten, a true champion both as a rider and a person. Sincere condolences to Raye and his family. Rest in Peace Ivan.

Saw him at Sun Street, Stoke in September 1963 riding for Newcastle. He scored a faultless maximum. He was awesome even at that time. RIP.

So sad that we have lost one of the greatest solo riders to pull leathers on. The Don Bradman of the oval granite circuit always a pleasure to watch and an influence on me to take up racing in my younger days God Bless Ivan and i hope you keep racing in heaven

Sad loss of a "champion"of Speedway, Sad loss to a great family, I have enjoyed talking to Ivan and Kym about their speedway adventures and have enjoyed their company. Another era gone, never to be replaced. Thanks for the great memories. True gentleman.

I was fortunate to meet Ivan through training schools and even more fortunate to stay at his house in 96 racing in his Golden Helmet Series. The 6 individual Titles that most people know about is such a small part of his overall success and stature in the sport. He is #1 by a long way. He and his family were so kind. I raced for years and my greatest achievement in Speedway was meeting Ivan. My condolences to his family. Speedway will never be the same, and there will never be another Ivan.
